2020 Vision Part 1

Well here we are everyone, the end of 2019. I have had an incredible almost-year since starting my layout at the end of May. I have experienced several highs and lows that can be associated with building model railways but I have not lost the love for it.

Bron Effans has grown from being a small project to a much larger endeavour which I hope will bear much fruit in the coming 12 months. I have built up quite a collection of rolling stock and have built up my skills to tackle the next phase of construction.

Scenery

Scenery is still a bit of an anathema to me. It is something that I need to do but I keep putting it off in favour of more interesting pursuits such as carriage building or working on one of my locomotives. I have made it a goal to progress with the scenery over the first few months of the year so that the layout will at least begin to resemble the little corner of Wales that I am trying to represent.

Everything is prepped in essence I simply need to commit the time and effort needed to completing it. There is a lot to be done. The backscene needs finishing with plaster or papier mache and then detailing with scatter and static grass. I am aiming to detail the area around the shipping container with gravel and fencing to make a cafe style area where passengers can take in the sites of locomotives being run around and serviced in the middle siding.

The long rear siding is in need of some electrical attention as it often loses power. I did intend for this to become an impromptu bay platform, but I am content using it as a siding for now. The upper mine railway is going to remain as an abandoned feature. I intend to model it with either abandoned trackwork or dress it up as a footpath for walkers.

The large green hill is going to become a wooded area. However, I am intending to build up the western end of the layout to resemble a cutting. I will be using a techinque I read up on to create the rocky outcrops and add a footbridge to span the gap to make the portal for the fiddle yard.

More to follow in Part 2...
