This is a platform alteration Part 2

After building the platforms out of Balsa and MDF, I was still unhappy with the finish of the platforms. I have since attempted construction with some wall filler material to create a flat surface. I created a mould using insulation tape to hold the filler and to help me give the platforms a uniform height. I think you will agree that the outcome looks pretty ok. There is only one end of the station that fouled a locomotive on a test run which will be rectified once the filler has completely set.

 Below is an image of all of the rolling stock with a new addition to the railway, the embankment where I am going to build a small mine railway which will have an interchange with the siding at Effans Uchaf. This is a rather large divergence from my original plan but I have borrowed the idea from "Lower Peak Wharf" The layout that first inspired me to explore 009. I have only built the embankment on the station side for now, but will be adding more to the western side of the bridge in due course.

What a week!

  I have finally started my summer break from work. The warm weather has meant that going outside isn't perhaps the wisest choice so I have retreated to the cool of the man cave to build on Bron Effans. There has been a lot of progress this week and I am going to break it into four sections. The railway I have finally completed the track work for the layout. I have changed the plan slightly to give myself two sidings at the station. One at the extreme end of the station for rolling stock storage and another at the entrance to the station for Locomotive storage. I have yet to work on the conductivity of this section as I have found that there are a few hiccups with the first siding. I am going to try Electrical paint on the joints between all pieces of track to try and encourage efficient running.  The station and fiddle yard are now complete. I am, at some point, going to build a traverser for the fiddle yard. I just want to get the visuals of the layout sorted...

A fifth loco?

After my jaunt to the Rainford, meet the other week, I procured an old Graham Farish 08 chassis. It took me a while to find a suitable kit for the chassis, as most people have beaten me to the really elaborate ones. In keeping with my railway's theme of tourism, I have elected for a loco that would look suitable pulling passenger stock. To that end I have purchased the bodyshell for a Baguley style 0-6-0 Diesel locomotive.  Picture courtesy of Ebay. My first diesel locomotive on Kato 103 Chassis. I don't think that it will be as large as the other diesel, but I am keen to show a different style of locomotive with connecting rods. I am also thinking it would benefit from a lovely BR Blue Livery. However, that is possibly destined for another locomotive down the line. For now five locomotives is enough for my layout. I must concentrate on getting it built.

An almost post lockdown update.

I have been experiencing a malaise of late with my modelling taking somewhat of a back-step to current events (at the time of writing 31/05/20). I have been trying to lull myself back into the comfort zone with some small projects to build my confidence back before I tackle my planned summer projects, more on that later.  I have built a few small kits to pass some of the time. First is the Rodney Stenning Corris Wagon kit. I have been on the look out for a wagon in this style for some time, as I have been dabbling with the idea of expanding the freight fleet of the railway to give a bit of variety in the trains I run.  This little wagon was unbelievably small. It is easily the smallest piece of rolling stock that the line currently has. Shown with a 5p for scale. I have had to add weight to this little wagon for it to stay on the tracks.
