It Takes All Kinds of People

Progress has continued apace on Bron Effans over the last few weeks. I have sourced some miniature people to populate the carriages with and have added them to the Bro Madog Carriage and the observation carriage. I bought some cheap pre-painted figures off a well known auction site as a quick way of getting multiple figures. I was concerned about the size of them, when they arrived, but they don't look too out of place in the carriages. 

I have never used figures on my layouts before but I am glad to be using them now. They seem to add another dimension to the tiny world that I am trying to construct.

There are still a few people that I wish to add to the Bro Madog Carriage. However, I have been able to stick the roof onto the Observation Carriage which means that one rake of carriages is complete. I just need to add the benches to the two VoR kits. The NWMGR Carriage 24 is having a few extra things added to it before I add passengers.

What a week!

  I have finally started my summer break from work. The warm weather has meant that going outside isn't perhaps the wisest choice so I have retreated to the cool of the man cave to build on Bron Effans. There has been a lot of progress this week and I am going to break it into four sections. The railway I have finally completed the track work for the layout. I have changed the plan slightly to give myself two sidings at the station. One at the extreme end of the station for rolling stock storage and another at the entrance to the station for Locomotive storage. I have yet to work on the conductivity of this section as I have found that there are a few hiccups with the first siding. I am going to try Electrical paint on the joints between all pieces of track to try and encourage efficient running.  The station and fiddle yard are now complete. I am, at some point, going to build a traverser for the fiddle yard. I just want to get the visuals of the layout sorted...

Budget Model Railways... A Plug

I have recently been in touch with the guys at Budget Model Railways for some advice and to place an order for some new rolling stock for the Bron Effans Line.  They have been incredibly helpful and I am happy to report that I have every intention of returning to their store to order some goods wagons once ive actually made some headway with the line. I am in desperate need of some couplers for the Fletcher Jennings and could do with some additional carriages. I have learnt many lessons from the Dundas kit but would like to try and model something akin to the tin cars that the Ffestiniog used in the 1960's onwards. The issue with this comes from the size of my layout. I would only realistically be able to marshall a two car consist on my line at this moment in time. So I have ordered a couple of the carriages from the team at Budget Model Railways. At this moment in time I have no idea what the livery of my new stock will be but I  will get back to you on that.

"You promised me this was about a layout!"

At the time of writing I have not yet begun construction of my railway. I hadn't realised how much actually goes into the construction of a fully functioning model railway. The whole thing is a financial millstone. But I am determined to make it happen. I've saved a lot by keeping it small. The layout is 7 feet by 1 1/2 feet. I would love to build a mega layout with two stations and lots of scenery but I must be realistic. A small station layout will be enough for me right now. I tried to cut costs by dismantling my old N-gauge track and repurposing it. However, the condition of the track and it's sheer age has meant this cannot be. So I have been researching the different types of track you can buy. I'm going for Peco set track as it seems the best. However, here lay another dilemma, that of gauge.  Most of my rolling stock has short wheelbases and can cope with virtually any curve.
