A Tender Issue

When I started the restoration and completion of the Prince model I was aware that there were no real running issues with the locomotive itself, but I could tell that there may be some issues with the tender on the pointwork as the flanges on the wheels were far too large for the frog sections of the points.

 I tried to sand them down a little but there was still an issue with the tender derailing so I have replaced the wheelsets on the tender and tested it. So far there have been no issues navigating the pointwork.
Finally behaving herself.
All that remains to be done with Prince is a coat of paint on and the brake pipes to be added. There is a bar on the tender that needs straightening and it will be a finished and functioning locomotive. I plan to run this with the main two carriage rakes. However, there are some four wheeled Ffestiniog kits that have cuaght my eye to run with this engine...

What a week!

  I have finally started my summer break from work. The warm weather has meant that going outside isn't perhaps the wisest choice so I have retreated to the cool of the man cave to build on Bron Effans. There has been a lot of progress this week and I am going to break it into four sections. The railway I have finally completed the track work for the layout. I have changed the plan slightly to give myself two sidings at the station. One at the extreme end of the station for rolling stock storage and another at the entrance to the station for Locomotive storage. I have yet to work on the conductivity of this section as I have found that there are a few hiccups with the first siding. I am going to try Electrical paint on the joints between all pieces of track to try and encourage efficient running.  The station and fiddle yard are now complete. I am, at some point, going to build a traverser for the fiddle yard. I just want to get the visuals of the layout sorted...

Restoration and new carriage

The restoration of the observation carriage is coming on quite well. 12 hours in some paint stripper and the gentle application of sandpaper has yielded some of the original metal of the model. Thanks to the power of Social Media, I have been able to ascertain that the kit is possibly an old Green Arrow kit, which is rare apparently.  I have strengthened the sides of the guards compartment, repaired the damage to the Guard's compartment and will construct a new roof from styrene when I get back off my summer holiday. At present the carriage has been undercoated in the usual black undercoat and will be painted to match it's partner carriage.  Which brings me onto the fourth large carriage of the fleet. I purchased another Vale of Rheidol Carriage with the intention of emulating Carriage 24 from the Welsh Highland Railway. A setback

This weekend was rather mixed. I went to my first ever meet up of the 009 society in Rainford. I loved meeting new people and managed to get hold of a lovely looking Lilliput steam engine and a Graham Farish 08 chassis. I have also purchased some points and some flexitrack. Quite a successful Saturday. When it came to Sunday I discovered some limitations of the products that I had bought. The Lilliput, as lovely as it is, is old. It needs a lot of tender loving care to make it serviceable. The motor appears to arc when it is moving forward. I am hoping that this is only a minor setback, as I have painted it in Southern Green to emulate the Manning Wardles of the Lynton railway.  I have also decided, unfortunately, to sell my three Langley carriages as they are too big for any of my fleet to manage.
